Mine is hard wired. I can never figure out why it's necessary for both.

It doesn't make sense, but the logic is that if you have a fire that is electrical in nature, it could interrupt the power to the alarm---hence the battery.

People here don't keep their lawns up

I spent the day getting ready for winter. Hoses are put away. Hose bibs are covered, the garden is torn down and put away. Boiler is serviced. Still need to blow the sprinklers out and I'll have to mow one more time, but we're ready.

I have a family who needs me and an autistic child who needs me even more. I can't afford to be without one when I can have one. We have a woman here at work who is 61, has no children and no responsibilities except to herself and her job who shares your philosophy. Recently she was 2hrs late to work and couldn't let us know what was up because she refuses to be in the loop.

Sounds like a personal problem. Whatever did we do before we had a boss in our hands 24 hours a day. I've got better things to do---LOL, I spend too much time on here anyway.

Most people have families. Is that a problem? If one of them has a problem I will use whatever resources are at my disposal to be there if they need me. But hey, you're "different", I guess.

Some people have autistic children who need support and supervision. I make no apologies for having a cell phone in order to be there if I'm needed. Are you actually mocking that??

It's called "courtesy" when you have a problem and other people are left hanging and you call to let them know you'll be late, or not coming in or whatever.

Who said you should have your cell phone hanging around your neck? It certainly wasn't me. So quit with the panties-in-a-wad projection. I stated the practical and moral reasons why I keep a cell phone, and you replied as if I was advocating something else.

Oh, and that "sounds like a personal problem" comment after saying I keep a cell phone to keep communication convenient with my family and autistic son. Wow.
