Kids had the same problems when I was in school but had more self-control. Also, we ate just as much sugar. The problem kids have is the same as adults have, a spirit of rebellion.

Unbelievable that people have to be convinced that sunshine is good for kids.

We kept our kids away from video games as much as possible, and it had a very positive effect.

Just last night we were eating with friends we've known for years, and a couple that they invited. The couple told us that they had asked their 18 yo son what he wanted for dinner and he was dismissive of the food mom makes ("that processed stuff") and said he would eat out (on money they had given him, of course).

Then the couple got the invite and while driving to the restaurand texted their son that they were eating out. Son texted back angry that they had not invited him to eat out with them. "Make me understand how that's right!"

Our kids were that age ten years ago and they would have never said any of that. Not on their worst day. They argued with us, plenty, but never about what we provided. When they wanted more, they went out and earned it. Since they got jobs, they won't let us pick up a check at a restaurant.

Because we did not let them get used to instant gratification by living on their devices.

Too many parents are almost afraid of their kids these days, and are absolutely RULED by their kids emotions (!). You are the parent. Direct them and tell them no. They might be momentarily upset but guess what? They will grow up like your kids (and mine, I'm proud to say)!

I remember the exact interaction I had with a first grader, maybe 10 years ago. He said something horridly rude and I looked at him and thought, "This is not my problem. But it will be his parents' problem for the rest of his life." Mind you, this mom had been told over and over about his behavior, but of course, it was always the teachers' fault.

It was freeing to realize that nope, I can't fix all these problems and it's not even my job.

That has a lot to do with their problems. They're told that both creation and evolution is true, but they instinctively know that one choice is all lies.

The churches should have never blown the whistle on accepting Darwin's evolution! The public schools are spreading the truth!

Their parents have set the bar low on telling religious lies. There's no standard that tells a teenager to not shoot his lib'rul classmate!

I cannot express to you how far outside reality you are here. This isn't even CLOSE to the problem; you're blinded by your politics.

Giving people choices and authority creates anxiety and stress. A basic phenomenon when you learn management. We all feel stressed making decisions. Kids were told in times gone by, but the "experts" and "fragile" knew better. So it's here to stay.

It's a problem Ter, and you know it. No matter what your personal beliefs will be, you're forced into telling yur students lies.

It's either the 'god' lies,

or

the evolution lies.

The teachers are adults that can understand what they're forced to say and do. (yes forced either and both ways)

But 21st. century children are too smart to not know they're being lied to. They will eventually attempt to confront the lies and the liars. Some in your classes with guns.

Which are the liles that you're forced to tell the children? Is it the evolution lies or the creation lies?

I don't recall being told anything about evolution or creation in my HS science classes. We just learned the science, not the religions of creationism or evolution.

for the past few decades, the medical profession has ramped up the claim that children need psychological help and they have increasingly been prescribing medication to younger and younger children. some do need it but I suspect most don't. Medication can help with mental problems, but children are not fully developed, and I think it is a bad idea to over medicated the young,

.....is way on the rise, as we've been hearing for years. As a veteran (and soon to be retired) teacher, I have three remedies parents could implement immediately (for what it's worth):

--Get your kids outside, preferably exercising, DAILY as much as possible.

--Get your kids OFF THE DEVICES, or at least strictly monitor the time they spend on them.

--Implement a family dinner time every night possible. No devices at dinner. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just eat as a family.

I really think if families could do these three things, kids would be a lot more mentally sound.
