Writing in the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012, Dr Fauci acknowledged the controversial scientific research could spark a pandemic. “In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?” he wrote. “Many ask reasonable questions: given the possibility of such a scenario – however remote – should the initial experiments have been performed and/or published in the first place, and what were the processes involved in this decision?

" Scientists working in this field might say – as indeed I have said – that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks."

Your Boi Fausti says your life is worth taking because of the importance of the experiments.

its to wipe out people....all over the world...less population, less chance of rebellion

“Accident risks with newly created “potential pandemic pathogens” raise grave new concerns,” the group’s letter read. “Laboratory creation of highly transmissible, novel strains of dangerous viruses, especially but not limited to influenza, poses substantially increased risks

and you thought nuclear proliferation was the 'thing'.....

As a complimentary side-note to the OP's important topic, I submit 2 pieces of conflicting information, at least I find these findings conflicting in purpose. The first supports that coming into contact with new species is a set risk with unknown variables, while the other one supports rushing out to find species yet unknown to man.... which is concerning if the fear of this one is legitimate:

1. "The risks of a "spillover" of deadly pathogens into people is growing as deforestation and fires put animals on the move, researchers warn"

2. "Nava and her colleagues are on the front lines of the search for animal diseases that could spill over and infect humans—and perhaps cause the next pandemic. "

So on one hand, we are told that it's risky to come into contact with species yet known to man, while on the other we are told that it's important for scientists to go messing with species known to be infected.

I'd be hard pressed arguing against the idea that some entities expect most humans to accept whatever comes along ...to accept whichever way the political winds blow as far as determining the best course of action for global health, even when the specialists in the field have no consensus.

Sounds like experiment conducted on the American POWs during WW2 by the Japanese

Have we surpassed the time period of when our level of knowledge has become more dangerous than having lower levels of information? Surely it appears we have, with this blantant example and many more.

There is still a chance to recognize it for what it is.....enhanced knowledge without understand how to use it is a risk that must be fully evalutated from non-playing entities (those without a profit motive). Kind of like on the individual level when a the person who knows just enough to mess things up in a big way turns out to be a lot worse than having less knowledge.

Bob Dylan tried to warn us back in 1964....Times they are a changin'.
