A few people in the crowd outside were armed, but that is not illegal since they never used then or committed any crime while armed.
The cops on duty did the initial assaulting.

Obviously there is no way to change election results by occupying the capital building.
All they were doing is trying to have their opinion on election fraud to be heard.

They still had that right to be heard, and occupying building is a tried and true tradition for expressing first amendment opinions.
