Train crossings are not 4-way stops. Amazing the people who seem to think so. A van got hit by a train a block from my house about thirty years ago. That pile of twisted metal was unrecognizable as a van. The cops would not let me close enough to see the recovery of the bodies but it took hours.

I was told back in the day, people used to oil or soap certain sections of the tracks around here so when King Coal's wares came through, the trains would start buffeting and the piled high in open cars coal would spill over. Then people would gather it up and use it to heat with.
