George Wallace won Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Nixon won Florida, the Midwest, California, and basically everything else except Minnesota, Texas, and the liberal Northeast. Nixon had a sunbelt strategy.

So you're telling me that prior to 1968 the Republicans were the Commie sympathizing wackos that burned the American flag, wanted to defund the military, and tax us all into equality? Also, Trump's five biggest margins of victory in 2016 were in West Virginia, Wyoming, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and Kentucky, not the deep South.

So did the Republicans and Democrats all agree to switch over the issue of race or not?

The 1994 crime bill was targeted at locking up what Hillary referred to as "super predators" for even minor drug charges. Its victims were disproportionately young African-American males who were taken away from their families and thrown in prisons, many for non-violent crimes. The bill exasperated the damage done to the family unit in inner city areas from previous decades of progressive policies. It finished off the job the radical left's "War on Poverty" started in the 1960s when they started incentivizing women to not marry in poor inner-city areas. The effect was that the unemployment rate among African-Americans skyrocketed from 25% to 77% from 1965 to 2015. In 50 years, the Democrats had re-enslaved African-Americans by making them dependent on the federal government.
Along comes Donald Trump and enacts prison reform, freeing massive numbers of African-American males from prison so they can get jobs and return to their families. Understandably, this enrages the Democrats as it reduces dependence on the government in inner city areas. They haven't been this mad since Abraham Lincoln freed their slaves. They are trying everything they can think of to try and impeach Trump.
The number of African-American males employed in the country broke another record this month. Five more years of this and things could get very bad for the Democrats.
"The economy added 266,000 jobs in the month, far more than expected. Black men over 20 picked up 14,000 of those jobs, according to Labor Department data released Friday. That matched in increase in the civilian labor force for that cohort."

Leftists even back then felt they had to "deconstruct" the text and re-interpret it to mean whatever justified their degenerate goals. Things haven't changed so much as they've stayed the same.
Donald Trump ended the practice of sentencing Americans to prison for minor drug offenses, which was devastating the family structure in inner city neighborhoods and keeping them dependent on the government. Next, Trump will put a conservative judge on the Supreme Court in order to end the slaughter of helpless children, something Abraham Lincoln undoubtedly would have done as well. Both men put their country first. Abraham Lincoln ended slavery while still keeping the union together. Today, Donald Trump is ending the left's struggle that seeks to undermine America's cultural values as well as our sense of national identity and he's finally putting an end to the left's incessant war to divide Americans into warring factions along the lines of race, sexual orientation, or any other multitude of divisive categories they can use to use to try and further their agenda.
Southern demo's who are not repubs
Who overwhelmingly voted for Barry Goldwater in 64 who notably was against the civil rights act of 1964
The 1964 bill was first proposed by Kennedy in June 11, 1963
Lincoln may have freed the slave but segregation was a way of life
The south was segregated back in those days with many segregationist politicians who supported it
the "Southern Bloc" of 18 southern Democratic Senators and one Republican Senator (D-GA) launched a to prevent its passage
It eventually passed and the South voted solid repub every since except Florida which took awhile

between the two being a talking point.

All I know the Republicans and Democrats "agreed on" was the "gentlemen's agreement" over apportioning Alaska and Hawaìi, and the Commission on Presidential Debates scam. Other than little one-off stuff like running a joint candidate against Bernie Sanders (who still won).
The race issue migrated slowly over time. In the beginning the Republicans, who were both the Liberals and the big central government group of the time, were the Abolitioin champions. By the end of that century they started taking on the interests of the wealthy, the railroad, the corporations, and toward that end imperialism on the world stage. Meanwhile the Democrats, who had been about small states-rights focused government, began to absorb the fledgling Populist Party/movement and the interests of labor, immigrants and minorities. By the 1930s the black vote had shifted and it's been in their corner ever since. Long story short. But I couldn't call that the two parties "agreeing" on some vast plan. One left a vacuum; the other filled it.
