Although many cereal box scholars think "they hate 'em!" is all anyone needs to know about international relations in NEA, the fact is that for Chinese people with the means to do so, tourism to Japan has been extremely popular for several years now. When the pandemic made tourism travel untenable, some enterprising folks put up some money and set up a "Japan Road" in Guangdong. Dubbed "Ichiban Street," it quickly became a popular destination. Naturally, the CCP found this threatening and have shut it down. Claims about copyright issues seem dubious given the CCPs usual concern for such matters.
