They wanted it to appear like the dossiers had come from sources outside of the US and not involved in the elections at all. They wanted it to appear that the FBI had looked into the source of the dossiers and found it credible. Nope. Did not happen...... 99%of voters did not know about the dossier before voting... the mother Jones article, which no one read, was Oct 31.... And no one read Mother Jones on the internet..... I followed the election day and night, 24/7 and did not read it either.

Clinton DID NOT plan a release for an October surprise....And have mother Jones release an article the VERY LAST DAY of October.... it would have been dropped in to the public weeks earlier in Oct, and on CNN or the NY Times, or the Washington post silly Willie.... not a nobody, internet only site.

David Corn at Mother Jones ran the story after Richard Steele contacted him about it and after a high level FBI contact confirmed that the FBI was indeed investigating what was claimed in the dossiers. It's never been established WHO that high level contact at the FBI was because Corn won't divulge his source but James Baker seems to be the likely suspect since he was removed from his position once it became public knowledge that Hillary had paid for the dossiers to be produced. That FBI confirmation however was all Corn needed to go with the story...which is exactly the way Steele was supposed to proceed.
The full dossiers were not published until January at which point the entire fabrication began to fall apart.
