And so it begins - GOP Senator introduces bill to eliminate the Department of Education

See? ^^^ This is the problem. Suggest to a liberal that college students go back to dorm living and a main dining hall in order to bring down the exorbitant costs of higher education, and you get mocked as being old-fashioned.

To liberals, living within one’s means is outdated. That is how Kamala blew through $1 billion in three months and still ended up $20 million in debt.

Nothing wrong with teenagers in college living in dorm rooms.

We had to walk uphill both ways to school in 4 feet of snow. Man, good times.

In government offices, as the fiscal year-end approaches, the “workers” are on the hunt to find ways to spend any remaining funds so as to assure they won’t get cut the next year. The way they throw our money away could make you throw up.
I don't think "throw our money away" is accurate. They are given money and a mission. Often the money expires so it has to be spent if the mission is to be funded. The money is not spent for vacations or any non-mission expenses.

I know a guy that worked for the FBI in the fingerprint division. When they had money that had to get spent so they made sure to get it next year he would go in for OT. What he would do is remove staples and re-staple the papers. Good money for the next vacation for doing next to nothing.

Yes, that needs to stop.

Throw away is correct. Every worked for the government?

We once had such a ridiculous, unneeded position that we couldn’t figure out any real work that she needed to do, so we gave her a piece of paper and told her to number from one to……whatever. We did that at least 3x a week just to fill the time.

Congresspersons get re-elected by promising their constituents the moon and delivering. We have 435 in the House and 100 in the Senate, all lobbying for money for their constituents. It is the Congress critters who are the lobbyists.
Americans want a free lunch.

Congress barely does anything anymore. If the federal government is dysfunction, it’s because Congress doesn’t do its job.

So we are going to get rid of Title 1 and all those poor underachieving kids who need help with reading are going to be left behind.

Meanwhile the rich parents don’t notice anything.

It’s almost as if putting billionaires in charge leads to these types of outcomes.

Are we the reason inner-city kids in Chicago and Milwaukee schools are leaving there with the intellectual equivalence of Zippy the Pinhead?

Nope, you folks did that, not us.
Wrong. budget cuts engineered by republicans do that.

Americans want a free lunch.
Yes, Americans want a free lunch, breakfast, and dinner too, without having to even work. Time for that to stop. The Department of Education shouldn't be a food service. It is an education service and our kids are not being educated, except for DEI and critical race theory. On top of that, we let boys use girl's bathrooms, change in the girl's sports locker rooms, and take girl's sports trophies away from girls.

Well, if the government is so dysfunctional that nothing gets done, then we could save one hell of a lot of money by cutting things with a sledge hammer and be no worse off for it, other than the huge money savings.

Who said nothing gets done?

Who said nothing gets done?
YOU said barely anything gets done. I said, if that is the case then we won't be missing out on anything by slashing the government, while saving a bunch of money to boot.

You’re reading comprehension is questionable.

Which Republicans are in charge of inner-city schools? Isn't this just a case of going up the ladder until you find a Republican, then blame everything on her?

To say the least! Since the DOE, we all know our standards have dropped like a rock.

With all the talk about bringing the Federal Budget under control, wouldn't the first logical choice be to review all spending in light of the U.S. Constitution?

Education is only one of those things that is reserved to the States and the private sector. There is nothing in Article I or anyplace else that gives Congress the power to spend my tax dollars on EDUCATION.

That is not to say that it is not a good idea, which is irrelevant. It is just to say that Congress lacks the legitimate power to do what it is now doing.

Why are they even talking about this?
