An Act of War

Info I have seen, is they are run their infrastructure to hell. It will take years of investment before there is profit to be made.
Do you think decades of economic sanctions imposed by the US on Venezuela could have prevented them from improving their infrastructure?

Not really. It's a big world. Plenty of non-US people out there that can do shit.

This was about them, and their failures.

The OP is total bullshit.

Maduro was not the rightful president of VZ, he was a brutal narco-terrorist dictator who needed to be removed.

Anyone who objects to removing Maduro is a narco-terrorist.
So are we (the US) going to go around removing all the leaders of nations we decide aren’t tne rightful leader? I’d guess that’s a long list.

I Absolutely Agree with Senator Rand Paul!

Trump SOTU 2025

Has my party become 'eunuchs in the thrall' of the president?

No provision in the Constitution allows the president to unilaterally bomb another nation's capital and remove its leader

Senator Rand Paul

Jan 07, 2026

"

I take a back seat to no one in my disdain and loathing of state-sponsored socialism.

In fact, I wrote a book, The Case Against Socialism, describing the historic link between socialism, communism and state-sponsored violence.

I wish the people of Venezuela well and sincerely hope they will not repeat the mistake of electing the type of socialist regime that has plagued that nation since the 1970s.

Whether or not socialism is evil, however, is not the debate today. The debate to about one question and one question only. Does the Constitution allow one man or one woman to take the nation to war without the approval of Congress? Full stop.

That question is bigger than regime change in Venezuela, bigger than any claims of the ends justifying the means, bigger even than the depredations and evils that multiple socialist autocrats have perpetrated upon the once great country of Venezuela.

Even those who celebrate the demise of the socialist, authoritarian regime in Venezuela, as I do, should give pause to granting the power to initiate war to one man. The power to initiate war is so vast a power that it must be confined by checks and balances.

The debate today would not be happening if our leaders read and understood the Federalist Papers. The constitutional power to initiate war is placed squarely on the shoulders of Congress."

Then why did Biden put a 25 million dollar bounty on Maduro?

I think most people, certainly Venezuelans, would agree with that. But as Rand points out, that isn't the issue.

NO it was communism that destroyed their economy like it always does

Then why did Biden put a 25 million dollar bounty on Maduro?
John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said the decision to raise the bounty on Mr. Maduro was part of “a concerted message of solidarity with the Venezuelan people,” meant “to further elevate international efforts to maintain pressure on Mr. Maduro and his representatives.”

Such rewards are widely considered more symbolic than a serious effort to effect an arrest. The $25 million bounty is an increase from a $15 million reward set by the Trump administration in 2020.

That’s a difference between Democrats and Trump. Democrats aren’t serious. Trump is.

Wrong. US sanctions affect most of the world. If you think most nations continue to trade with a nation under US sanctions, you’re fooling yourself. All you need do is look at Cuba and Iran.

And besides, you dumb cons love to claim socialism never works. If that were true, why must our criminal government impose sanctions, coup, invade and threaten socialist governments? Just let them die on their own.

Only if those nations kill 400,000 Americans like the drug cartels did during Biden's term.
Trump wants to save at least 200,000 American lives by reducing the flow of drugs, and improve affordability by increasing the oil supply.
Not to mention the national security benefits of getting China, Russia, Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah out of our hemisphere.

If it’s about drugs why Venezuela they aren’t the biggest of offenders or even top 5.

Why now?

The answer is in two parts, the "War Powers Act" gives the president up to 60 days to conduct military operations, and more importantly in the case of VZ, the nation is NOT at war, we arrested a criminal who was not the legitimate president of VZ.
