Penalize who?
No one ever asked me to give anything up.
There are a limited number of seats in college and when a company is hiring for a position, there very well may only be that one position. To answer your question, the person that is not diverse enough is penalized because they are not of the correct skin color or gender.
You act as if AA and DEI only use race and gender as the determining factor in the cases where everything else is equal. That is completely false, as candidates are first divided on the basis of race and gender, and in the case of college admissions, a certain number of the finite spots available are chosen out of the diverse group(s), regardless of the qualifications of those in the other groups. Yes, many people were/are harmed as they are unfairly discriminated against based on their race/gender despite being MORE qualified. I can’t see how anyone believes that is justified especially when mandated and promoted by our federal government.
