People say that they're willing to pay more to "bring back" manufacturing jobs.

Words mean little.

I grew up using Craftsman tools- my dad preferred them, so I naturally ended up using them. I always liked what seemed like the superior quality of Craftsman tools- that they were made in the United States was nice too.

But most Craftsman tools are not made in the United States anymore. Because Craftsman was losing too much business because Americans for the most part would not pay a premium for a Craftsman wrench made in the United States.

Sure we say will- but when we get to the hardware store- and there is the Craftsman 3/4" wrench for $10.00 and the store brand wrench for $2.00.......well.....the store sells lots more of the $2.00 wrenches.

Hillary is a good example of a cheap $2.00 wench.

Trump voters do love insulting women.

Americans paying more is only part of it. Here is what is also needed.......

- More restrictions/tariffs on imports
- Lower Corporate Taxes
- Less Regulations
- Less Limited Liability
- Less/no artificial wage mandates (e.g. unions and/or government)

Competitive markets globally don't have the level of taxes, regulations, liability, and wage mandates that we do.

More restrictions and tariffs on imports can lead to trade wars- or just higher costs for American consumers. Do you want to pay 30% more for a TV? That is what Donald Trump has proposed.
Lower corporate taxes? Might help
Less Regulations- yes- China does have less regulations.

I would pay 30% more for a US-made laptop or phone in a heartbeat. I DID pay a premium for my last set of car tires to get them US-made. (As far as I can tell, all tires in the size my wife's and my bikes use are imported...though we both managed to get tires not made in China.)

Actually, Craftsman quality has nose-dived in the last ~15 years...why payu the price premium for junk? I have gone from making my living with Craftsman tools to not wanting them if given to me free. My last Craftsman purchases were from garage sales...they are worn and probably 25 years old, but I would bet they will outlast the Chinese-made crap that is on the shelf today!

profitability also means people, can take care of their families, recently my brother and his wife asked me if they could borrow some money from me to buy a house. luckily, i will be able to do that, but then again because of certain restrictions placed on us it's not exactly simple as loaning money. Anything over 10K is considered a taxable event if I was just to write them a check for 80 k. And then if they were to simply want to pay me back it could be taxed again by the government. So money that was already taxed can be taxed 2 more times possibly because why? they see us as greedy?
