Brilliant proof that our Government can still come together and do some good for the People. Big props to all on both sides who did the right thing. Now onto the House...

The Senate voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to overturn President Obama’s veto of a bill letting families of Sept. 11 victims sue the Saudi Arabian government, bringing Congress within reach of completing the first successful veto override of Obama’s presidency.

The Senate voted 97-1 to reject the veto. The measure heads next to the House, where lawmakers will need to muster a two-thirds majority, as in the Senate, to override.

Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., speaking on the Senate floor moments before Wednesday's vote, pushed back hard on Saudi government objections to the legislation, which has broad bipartisan support on Capitol Hill.

An override now appears all but certain and would mark a blow to the president in the final months of his term.

“It’s very simple. If the Saudis were culpable, they should be held accountable. If they had nothing to do with 9/11, they have nothing to fear,” Schumer said...

I very seldom agree with Obama, but on this one he is right. All this amounts to is a get rich scheme for lawyers, and will make it possible for other countries to sue the US for deaths of their citizens that were killed by our military in any undeclared war.

Right On House! You are true American Heroes. Now, hopefully our 9/11 victims' families can get justice and closure. Thank you, both Democrats and Republicans.

If our Government has done no wrong, it has nothing to fear going to court. But if it has done wrong, it should be held accountable.

If Saudi Arabia can be sued for the 9/11 attacks, why did we invade Iraq?

I don't know that the Saudi Arabian government did any wrong. It may have been wealthy Saudi individuals that financed 9-11. The bottom line is this is a make work law for lawyers and nothing else. What do you think the odds are that American lawyers are going to get any credible information from the Saudi government?

Either way a lot of lawyers get filthy rich.

We'll see. But i'm happy that our Congress stood with its own People. I'm proud of em. And we don't get to say that very often.

That is how it works. But it's still the best System man has come up with.

Our government should not be killing people in undeclared wars.

True, but the Congress has not declared war on anyone since 1941. Bush came as close as he could with a vote in Congress and continued appropriations to conduct two wars. Obama didn't even bother to go to Congress when he bombed Libya.

Congress has not been doing its job properly so time they started and the presidents whoever they are held within the confines of what their job duties actually are.
