Gas is a global commodity, the EU can buy it from many places, other than Russia, giving Putin cash to threaten NATO countries and support his war in Ukraine. Trump is right to say it makes no sense for the EU to buy gas from Russia while the US taxpayers pay for US troops in the EU to keep Russia out of the EU.
