It would take a major screw up to be off 900 miles. They weren't that bad.Sorry for misunderstanding your previous post.I didn't say they didn't search the ocean. I said a rescue attempt from the Japanese never happened.1) Is that a retraction of your earlier statement that no search was made at all? "they did nothing in the way of a rescue attempt"A mission that cost them 250k a day that ultimately made the government want to make such navy searches illegal for civilian/celebrity adventurers.Sorry, but it was one of the largest SAR missions in history with many US sailors risking their lives in the search.
The Reason Why the Search for Amelia Earhart Was Called Off
Then we learn that the government knew she and Noonsn had been captured...and they did nothing.
Not only did they waste time and money. They left them with the Japanese.
Not very good PR.
2) As shown in a previous post, it's highly unlikely Earhart could have made it the 930+ miles to the Marshall Islands without fuel. Add to this, the Electra 10E cruised at 190MPH. A 930 mile flight would have taken her almost 5 hours additional flight time. Highly unlikely she'd have turned that way instead of looking for Howland. Add to this, is Earhart ended up in the Marshall Islands, she'd be a much worse pilot than anyone previously believed.
3) This still doesn't explain why the US would hide "the truth" for nearly 80 years. As shown above, looking at the Marshalls would be a waste of time since Earhart didn't have the fuel and all the radio triangulations showed she was around Howland. IF she had been captured by the Japanese, the US has a very plausible reason for not looking at the Marshalls and a very good post-WWII reason to hang a few more Japanese for war crimes. So why hide it?
Don't put words in my mouth.
And as for your claims she couldn't have made it to Marshall Islands. That was covered in the documentary and experts said she could have made it there and they explained in detail why they believed it was possible.
Many eye witnesses saw her in Japanese custody and came forward to talk about it years ago. I find it perfectly plausible that she could have been captured and the government left her to die and then covered it up. Much like they were trying (and failing) to do with Benghazi.
I didn't watch the documentary, the picture has been proven to be from 1935 and both the math and political reasoning doesn't add up. Believe as you wish. If you want to believe Earhart was over 900 miles off course, fine. If you want to believe all of those radio triangulations were faked, a big government conspiracy or erroneous, fine. Produce evidence proving Earhart and her aircraft were captured by the Japanese and I'll be happy to discuss it.
even today using dead reckoning being off by a degree or two over great distance
one could be off by 900 miles that was possible
however the rest doesnt add up
Yes, if one was off a degree or two and didn't check it for 4700 miles, they could be off, but it's SOP to regularly check one's position in order to not miss a speck in the ocean....but they weren't flying simply by dead reckoning.
