Ontario is the poster boy for waste and the outcome some of your states will realize over time if you don't return to free market principles and accountable government/unions. There are hundreds of reasons that Big Government always fails, here is but a few.
- Free money from government enters the system, a few operate government officials and unions use the money as if their own (police, firemen, construction, education unions etc.). Few asks questions as they give their annual need for money and politicians obediently nod their heads to keep votes.
- Cronys lobby for cash, donors and loyalists want their just rewards for helping politicians get elected. It's all "hush hush", since police don't want to get involved as they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them and over funds them.
- Anything that is built with taxpayer money results in over spending and overruns in costs with no one held accountable or sent to prison ("where did the billion dollars go"?).
- Excessive taxes are needed to try and maintain social safety nets (SALT will artificially prop up some home owners via federal taxes).
- The average workers can't afford prices of big, government cash influx and affordable housing becomes scarce, driving up the prices of posh neighbourhoods and pushing others out of what used to be good Middle Class areas. They have less disposable income and can't support the local economy.
- Honest, hard working people leave, understanding the futility of trying to chase their tails to keep a roof over their heads and food in their stomach due to inflation. The super wealthy remain as they have the assets and own the best properties which are rising in value due to constant artificial injections of cash for other upper middle class union employees..
- The poorest also remain due to lack of options and work elsewhere, they are thus "managed" by the wealthy and further inefficient government subsidies are applied from the shrinking Middle Class and existing wealthy all to ensure the system doesn't collapse.
