Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) took aim Wednesday at the $25,000 cap on the “no tax on tips” provision included in the Senate-passed version of President Trump’s “big, beautiful” spending and tax bill.

“As one of the only people in this body who has lived off of tips, I want to tell you a little bit about the scam of that text, a little bit of the fine print there,” Ocasio-Cortez said during her floor speech, amid debate on the rule for the revised megabill.

“The cap on that is $25,000,” she said, “while you’re jacking up taxes on people who make less than $50,000 across the United States, while taking away their [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program] program, while take taking away their Medicaid, while kicking them off of the [Affordable Care Act] and their health care extensions.”

The reconciliation package, which advanced back to the House after Vice President Vance cast a tie-breaking vote Tuesday, includes a $25,000 cap on the amount of tips workers can claim in their deductions. The lower chamber’s bill, which was passed in May, did not place a cap under the “no tax on tips” provision — one of Trump’s campaign promises.

Comment:
Most working people would love to get a $25,000 tax break.
AOC reminds me of when Nancy Pelosi called Trump's first term tax cut bill "crumbs" for middle class workers.
The truth is that in left wing economics the working people are plow horses for the government spending.
The Democrats must be fearing that their slaves might escape.

Obviously you have to have a maximum cap or people will just play games and claim all of thier earnings as only arising from tips. And/or, have their employer apply some "tip wage" in exchange for their hourly to save e person alot of cash and both employer and employee would be protected. Perhaps an employer would hire someone at half the hoirly.and have a "tip matching program" instead. There are so many games that could be played without a max.

Let me get this straight. Cortez is against ending taxes on tips, because she once got tips.

she has a point. Trump said no taxes on tips. But hey you got to make concessions to give the wealthy the tax breaks they demand.

One way to look at is as follows. Bezos had a 50M wedding. Take the bottom 250 earners total LIFE savings on this board and you will not even be close to 50M.

not what Trump promised. Sorry :)

the wealthy will be paying the same tax rate they've been paying since 2017.

It's not as 25,000 tax break. It only limits the tips up to 25,000. Meanwhile, that is used to buy votes that will be charged much more than that for health care and lose at least that amount in Medicaid. The break is just for the taxes, not anything else. Let's see just how dumb people really are that buy this BS.

The Dems will lose a lot of voters

So the first $25k in tip income is tax free, and she is bitching about that?

The saddest political fact in the U.S. is that there are districts in the U.S. where she can get elected. That's why the NYC Democrat mayoral primary should surprise nobody.
