Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Gets Entire Solar Co. Workforce Fired After Telling Them to Unionize

How does it benefit the workers to make business too expensive to remain open?
A silly question, as not all businesses with unions close or have closed. Ignored.

It's funny how when union leadership tells their workers to strike, the union leadership still gets paid.
As do the striking workers, in general. They get strike pay. Did you not know that? Maybe you need to read up on this topic some more before commenting again.

What "pay" do union leaders get? Do you think they are getting rich? These are Unions, not the NRA.

The Center for Union Facts, the union watchdog that unveiled the average presidential salary from nearly 200 unions, found that some union leaders are earning lucrative salaries north of $700,000.

It is illegal to fire people for trying to organize a union, all workers should have a union, and no employer should care if their employees are organized if they are bargaining honestly.

That is still less than what the corporation execs make.

I didn't say they all closed, you coward.

Of course I knew that. But it's not much. The Teamsters:
Strike pay is equivalent to five times your monthly dues amount with a minimum benefit of one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) per week.
How much are the dues?
Dues are calculated simply as two and one half (2.5) times your hourly wage.
What's a Teamster's hourly wage? Let's use an equipment operator as an example: $14 - $35 an hour. Let's go with $30 an hour. Dues are $75 a month. Strike pay is therefore $375 a week.

When he's working, he's earning $1,200 a week.

Does $375 sound like much compared to $1,200? Because it's not.

Maybe you ought to read up on this topic before commenting again.

Let's stick with the Teamsters, shall we?
James Hoffa, President

International Brotherhood of Teamsters

$381,403
That's $7,334.67 a week. And he keeps drawing it while the operator on strike is getting $375 a week.

Your silly attempt at distraction by mentioning the NRA is noted. It's a ridiculous comparison, but I understand it's the best you can do.

So?

"The owners of a solar power company fired their entire workforce after Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez agitated the workers and urged them to unionize.

Looks like having the queen of the Green New Deal telling them to unionize was probably not the best advice, huh?

Last week, Bright Power decided to fire its staff and farm all the work out to subcontractors instead of maintaining their own workforce. The firing occurred just as the workers were following Ocasio-Cortez’s advice to form a union.

Isn't she just the greatest little job killer?

I love how you don't blame the company who actually fired the workers. What isn't surprising is that you're so stupid that you're actually gleeful that the company did this.

Typical conservative, always siding with those who want to screw over their workers, even when they are one of the workers. The bosses are always right.

As long as you don't rock the boat, unions can keep bums and do. Government employees are not liked by a factor of ten or more today as an example. That was not always the case. Anyway that will not ast as more and more the taxpayer is being strained to pay for all of this.

They are in a lot of cases. My employer told me long ago, if we decided to unionize, he's closing the place up; not out of spite, but because with union demands, he could never compete against other companies.

Unions are one of the prime reasons we lost thousands of businesses either from our states or the country. Again, not out of spite, but out of competition. I can't pay my widget producers 20 bucks an hour and great benefits when I'm competing against Sal, who's getting his widgets made in China for 5 dollars a day.

Yes it is, but people in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.

It is illegal to fire people for trying to organize a union, all workers should have a union, and no employer should care if their employees are organized if they are bargaining honestly.

It's only illegal to fire them if they are discussing unions outside of company property. If they are in the lunchroom, and a supervisor hears they are talking about meeting with a union representative, they can get fired on the spot.

Won't it be funny now if the subcontractor they hire is unionized?

No. The "employer" wants to take his company 100% 10-99 workers. He fires everyone on paper.

“It makes business sense to return to a fully subcontracted solar installation model"
It's like these employees no longer fit into their business model, but the unemployment rate is at lifetime lows, they should have little problem picking up work elsewhere.

Yes, if you are in the tech, medical, construction or financial sector, etc., you'll do well. But if you are in the service sector or one of the others many formerly limited education, low-skilled or disabled people traditionally relied upon mostly being replaced by robotics now, you'll starve. People want a living wage for themselves, but are frighteningly often afraid or unwilling to pay it to others where they don't have to.
If you want to pay folks above market rate, you are free to do so.

Yup. Unions enact "work rules", those harm the business for no reason. Thus, the entire work force gets fired.

It's pretty simple.

It's a scam to pay American Workers less, comrade.

Yeah, plantation owners get really pissy when labor gets all uppity.

LOL, if I own the Co I'm not allowing you to dictae how I run it or how much you get paid.
Deal with it

Surprise!!!!

You do not have any inalienable right to own or run a business.

You either meet the standards of business practice set by the government or shutdown.

If workers want to unionize and force you to meet their standards, they are free to do so.
And he is free to shit-can them and outsource to China.

She couldn't have gotten them all fired. Discharge decisions are made by management, not outsiders.
