Tommy, that is nonsense. These chickens have been coming home to roost for a long time. The Democrats try to blame it on Reagan, but he had no choice—we were in a Cold War and facing national defeat. We had to spend on defense. Reagan wanted to cut back in other areas, but the Democrats refused. However, the real nail in the coffin was the Democratic icon, Clinton. His relentless push for ‘no new taxes’ against George H.W. Bush—who recognized reality and raised taxes—had a lasting effect on political thinking. Since then, no politician has seriously proposed raising taxes, except on the rich, since they are a minority. But taxing only a minority would be a mistake. After all, taxes are essentially voluntary—if someone is truly determined to avoid them, they can do so, and you can’t put everyone in jail.

Democrats have never asked themselves the essential question: ‘What in the government can we do without?’ I'll answer for them—we can do without the federal Department of Education. If the essential activities of the department could be moved to other agencies, it would reduce overhead and save money. Meanwhile, Trump has traveled the world promoting American business. Have you ever known a Democrat politician to do that?
