Zone1 Agnostics: Are you seekers of or indifferent to God?

The same can be said about a lot of things. No one needs, siblings, friends, teachers, flowers, pets to exist. But if one truly wants to live all existence has to offer, some of these extras to existence are good.
Conversely , one does not need religion to have faith Meri....~S~

I'm willing to bet on it.

How unfair of you to use logic and facts in a debate about the bible! ............ :)
But then again maybe we common earthlings just need the heavenly scripture interpreted for us?

Or maybe we "should keep our mouths shut"? o_O

That was perfect. The kid rambled off bible verses about the sins of man and fire and brimstone and eternal damnation but when asked what he meant, he couldn't explain.

So he just memorizes and repeats what he has been told, or brainwashed.

First off, when we say 'the church' in reference to religion, you need to acknowledge there's some 3000 religions all proclaiming their 'god' or 'gods' the true one Meri.

When you get your head around the fact that religion is entirely a man made manifestation expressed through the filters of human greed and lust for power , you'll see how antithetical it is to faith

religion and faith are in two different places in the dictionary, with a very wide distinction from each other, and for good reason

What is wrong with three thousand religions, meaning three thousand perspectives of God and religion? Considering their have been billions of us down through the ages, three thousand religions is absolutely minuscule. (.0000375%) Everything about life--and every person--is human greed and lust for power. Those who think it is only found in religion live a very sheltered life. What shines through religious faith and belief in God are those who point to the road less traveled of avoiding greed and lust for power. Religion, Faith, Church, Temple, Synagogue teach so much more--who can break through that din of greed and lust for power to develop eyes to see and ears to hear what is beyond greed and power.

Religion and faith also have much in common. Again, eyes to see and ears to hear beyond the din. There is a difference between breaking through and turning away.

Some do. Yes. Furthermore normal people interact with the planet so get to become far more intimate with reality of life.

Far more than a person who has spent their life removed from the world locked in a life of mere reading and thinking.
Right. The best of teachers do both, but there have also been some very good teachers who have spent time thinking it all through.

If no god exists, IDC.
If one does exist, I hope it isnt the abrahamic god. What a piece of work that one is lolz
I recommend studying the Old Testament with a Jewish rabbi or someone whose first language is Hebrew. It is also helpful to step out of one's own point of view when reading the Old Testament and to step into God's point of view.

for starters , if you only believe in one, and not the other 2999, you're an agnostic

THE BIBLE and those who quote it.
Now this I get...proof-texting...choosing one passage to make a point when there are many other passages that refute that point! The writer of Perry Mason books often used the description of someone starting with a button and sewing a vest on it (as opposed to starting with the vest, sewing the button on last.)

The Bible is a drop in the entire history of mankind....a most beautiful drop, but there is so much information and history outside its pages as well.

yeah, there was a lot of that too Meri

I keep throwing my poodle up in the air but he just won't fly. Maybe i just need to keep "trying it out".
As someone who has taught technology, I recommend moving on to discover what is capable of flying. I usually start young students with paper airplanes before moving on to robotics.

In the same way, many of us have all too often tried a Biblical teaching and then wondered, "Why won't that poodle fly! I through him up in the air!" I still have a hard time with Don't hide your light under a bushel basket and Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. And there are certainly more complicated issues than these.

I agree. But we also have to be aware of the lesson of the pond. A pond can grow stagnant if it only has a little water flowing into it with no way out. If we try faith on our own we can face this possibility. Faith is meant to flow in and flow out which is where religion and worshiping with others comes into play. Religion is meant to grown faith, not strangle it.

Well, us Greek Orthodox split from you for a reason. But we are a lot like you too. I don't recall any priest preaching what that kid was preaching. That's down south preachin right there boy. Scare them dummies into belief. That doesn't work in educated society. A bit more subtle in our churches. And yes, Catholics are cocky they are the OG's. But Mormons have a point. Sort of lost your connection with God during the dark ages around 1000 to 1200 ad. So the last good Pope handed it off to a corrupt one who bought his way in to the position. At what point did the church go back to having a real leader? Who was the first good pope after the last bad one? Does anyone know the day the church reconnected with God?

Or is it still a corrupt church of gay men. I hear there is a gay bar/hang out in the Vatican. Is that true? Google

Not my experience at all. We were raised to be unique individuals. But then, at my Catholic school we were taught The Road Less Traveled and spent memorable times listening to George Carlin. We also had people of other faiths come in and talk to us. We were flat out told to look at the student to our left, then to our right, and then in front of us, and to keep in mind the very real statistics is that only one of us would remain Catholic. What was your experience?

It's comments like this. This is classic religion. What does this even mean? It it meant to confuse? Should we dissect what you just said or just "have faith" what you just said is all accurate? Who are you Kain from Kung Foo?
