I don't see much difference between the Confederates and the Mexicans who both fell victim to American imperialism. But I have to hand it to Florida Governor John Milton, 1861-1863, who sure in the hell beats those these days who threaten to move to Canada when elections don't go their way.

As Confederate defeat loomed, Milton committed suicide on April 1, 1865, stating before his demise that "death would be preferable to reunion" with the North.

The confederacy was dominated by Democrats fighting because they did not want to follow a duly elected Republican President, Abraham Lincoln.
