I don't understand why the appeals court did not issue this stay but they didn't.

I sure hope the Supreme Court issues the stay.

Otherwise, women in Texas are seriously screwed. Most women don't even know they're pregnant by 6 weeks.

Women are going to have to take pregnancy tests monthly in Texas so they can know they are pregnant before that 6 weeks has expired. Which I believe is discrimination to women.

Or they will go out of state for their abortions or to the internet for the abortion pill which really should be administered by a physician.

The part of the law that allows private people to sue anyone who they think violated this law is just out of control. A person who just gave someone a ride to get an abortion or helped someone pay for an abortion can be sued.

It's ridiculous and shouldn't be allowed to become law.

Things will get ugly in Texas if this law is allowed to stand.

Women in Texas better wake up and start voting and vote these crazy people out of their state congress.

Ginsberg was with the ACLU before the Supreme Court. Conflict of interests.. But Politics is Politics.

That's not going to happen.

I don't know. I won't be surprised either way.

This law even prohibits a private insurance company from paying for an abortion.

Even if a parent paid for the abortion or gave their child a ride to a clinic can be sued.

I just can't see the Supreme Court not issuing that stay on this way overboard and unconstitutional law.

You know that Ginsberg died in 2020 don't you?

If not, you really should try to keep up with events in our nation.

What does she have to do with this?

If it stands, the internet is ready to keep flooding the gestappo's reporting page with Shrek porn

This Texas measure is yet another example of the authoritarian right’s contempt for the Constitution and its case law and conservatives’ desire to increase the authority of the state at the expense of individual liberty.

Those same conservatives make up an overwhelming majority on the Supreme Court.

This is the ultimate disaster of the 2016 election: citizens can no longer seek relief in the courts when Republican lawmakers enact measures intended to increase the power of the state in violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.

Abortion is on the way out, science is proving it.

I imagine there is far more to this law than stated in this article but.............

The Texas Heartbeat Act forces medical providers to look for the heartbeat of a fetus before performing an abortion and provides, specifically, that “a physician may not knowingly perform or induce an abortion on a pregnant woman unless the physician has determined, in accordance with this section, whether the woman’s unborn child has a detectable fetal heartbeat.”

That reads to me that no abortion is stopped. You check for a heartbeat before you proceed. It doesn't state that the doctor can't proceed.

Unsurprisingly, the Court did nothing, signaling to fellow conservatives its contempt for privacy rights and support for Republican authoritarianism.

So to you on the far left, the 2nd amendment to the constitution is just a suggestion that can be modified, but abortion, that isn't in the constitution, but was created by a liberal Supreme Court, is inviolate and not to be modified? Weird logic that.

BS. If Roe V Wade were fully overturned tomorrow it would NOT keep women from getting an abortion in most states. It's true that many conservative states might well end the horrific practice but there would still be no legal barrier to a woman getting the abortion elsewhere. Even pro-life people wouldn't take it that far. If women demand the ability to continue snuffing out lives for the sake of their own convenience then they'll FIND a way to do so.

If Planned Parenthood is so vital, donate to them so they can give free transportation and medical care in states that continue to keep it legal.

Are there any other rights that we can restrict because you can exercise it elsewhere? How about Freedom of Religion? Hey, you can be a Jew in another state, your freedoms aren’t really being restricted. How about the Second Amendment? Hey, you can own guns in Texas. But not here. So move to Texas.

The problem with people today is that they all hate part of the Constitution. They hate that this is legal, or that is protected. They claim the founders never intended.

They are all wrong.

As for Texas. I’d personally advise people to file dozens, hundreds of lawsuits. When Doctors decide it costs too much to practice medicine in Texas, the Doctors will retire, or just leave. Then you all can go back to waving snakes over the sick and injured and waiting for God to cure them.

Just the latest piece of evidence as to why the South is always going to be thought of as a wasteland. I wonder if we can now pass laws where if someone thinks you have an illegal gun, they can sue you for having that gun.

I'm not surprised.

I was hoping they would issue that stay.

They didn't so now the women in Texas are screwed.

They need to wake up and vote those republicans out of office.

People can't depend on the courts anymore so the only way to put a stop to all this is to vote republicans out of office.

I hope women in red states wake up. This law will start to be passed in state legislatures in red states soon. Politicians who don't protect rights and the constitution need to be voted out of office. The courts won't protect women so it's up to women to vote for politicians who will.
