ACLU: Feds arresting Portland protesters in unmarked cars "unconstitutional"

One can only hope the protesters get their brains beat with billy clubs.

All insurance is redistribution from lucky people to unlucky people. Or from safe people to unsafe people.

You are an idiot.

The Trump administration is under fire for arresting people without the suspicion of a crime, and without identifying themselves, making it easy for others to pretend to be law enforcement agents.
Federal agents in green camouflage uniforms have been taking into custody people in the streets of Portland, not close to federal property that they were sent to protect, in what the ACLU of Oregon on Friday said "should concern everyone in the United States."

"Usually when we see people in unmarked cars forcibly grab someone off the street we call it kidnapping. The actions of the militarized federal officers are flat-out unconstitutional and will not go unanswered," said Jann Carson, interim executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown said President Donald Trump, who deployed Department of Homeland Security officers to Portland, "is looking for a confrontation in Oregon in the hopes of winning political points in Ohio or Iowa."
Have you ever heard of the NDAA indefinite detention? it gives the president authorization which congress authorized it under obama, the authority to detain citizens without the protection of rights when they are conducting terrorist acts. You were warned this would backfire when obama extended and expanded on the authority.

The difference is I quoted the law ... Universal Commercial Code ... written by Congress, signed by the President ... please, your turn ... quote me the law that says LEO can detain and transport someone from the sidewalk just to get their ID? ...

We have no evidence of that happening. A law enforcement officer is allowed to remove or detain somebody they believe might have committed a crime, or is about to. Even local police can hold you for 72 hours for questioning even if they don't have a charge against you.

Either something is unconstitutional or it isn't. a Congress cannot write laws against the Constitution for any reason. If they want a law that violates the Constitution, they need to introduce an amendment first, have it passed and ratified, then write their law.

As for us drivers, yes, it was challenged in court, and the court ruled that DOT officers can do what they do to us all the time.

Actually ... I'm relying on acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf's quoted statements posted up-thread ...

I get my information from a variety of media sources ... so I was certainly skeptical of the first reports I found in Willamette Week or NPR ... but then the tactics were officially confirmed ... from a Cabinet Secretary no less ...

Why are you all riled up? ... what business is it of yours what folks in Portland want to do? ... it would seem it is you who doesn't understand how media works ...

I'm not riled up at all. Why, do you see or suspect me of protesting or rioting? I hope all these liberal towns destroy the hell out of themselves, kick their police force out, and watch it spin into a crime ridden territory. I'm for the President winning re-election. He will be more than happy to point out what Democrat leadership across the country would look like using those very same lib cities.

If the cars were marked would that be ok, criminal lover?

Nonsense ... one cannot be jailed solely on faith-based beliefs ... it doesn't matter what the police believe, they need articulable suspicion to detain anyone ... something like jay-walking, smelling of elderberry wine, broken tail-light ... maybe go watch some 1st Amendment Auditor videos, the good ones will post the text of the laws governing this and cite the exact law they're quoting ...

You've not cited a single law in this thread so far ... you're entitled to your opinion, but written law doesn't agree with you ... unless you have a citation otherwise ... keep in mind we're discussing someone walking down the public sidewalk ...

Holding a CDL is a privilege ... not a right ... scary you don't know this driving 34 tons at 75 mph down the freeway ... how many families have you crashed into and killed? ... how many dead families did my mother have to investigate because the truck driver was at the wheel for 30 hours and fell asleep? ... the courts ruled that Congress has the right to pass the UCC ... if you don't like it, don't drive truck ... I hated OSHA inspections, so I never hired any employees ... simple ...

You're hoping our brothers and sisters descend into deadly anarchy ... that's evil ... is it because you disagree with them? ... that's ignorant ... don your white hood and resurrect your savior Jim Crow ...

The sad truth of your stupidity is that 99% of Portland is beautiful ... peaceful and sylvan ... I think the largest City Park in the whole USA, even a damn volcano vent right in the middle of town (probably inactive, but who knows) ... the place smells of roses and lavender ... these protests are just a few city blocks around ICE headquarters ... the rest of the city is business as usual ...

Rains everyday all day long ...

I never said jailed, I said held, as in an interrogation room. I also said a crime, not jaywalking or drinking too much which neither of those infractions would require an investigation or questioning.

Someone walking down a street that's possibly suspected of criminal activity can be taken away and questioned. Need the evidence, just ask.

Driving any vehicle is not a right. But if police pull over a passenger vehicle for no reason at all, search it, inspect it, just because they want to, they will be charged with constitutional violations if the person who's rights were violated presses the issue.

I didn't bring up those safety inspections as a complaint, I brought it up as a comparison to what the feds were doing to the troublemakers in Portland. The words in the Constitution are not to be taken literally in every circumstance.

You're hoping our brothers and sisters descend into deadly anarchy ... that's evil ... is it because you disagree with them? ... that's ignorant ... don your white hood and resurrect your savior Jim Crow ...

Yeah, it must be racism, even though a lot of those losers are white adults still living at home in their moms basement, obviously with no job or intention of getting one. Yes, I would rather see those places go to hell as an example of what the entire country could look like under a total Democrat leadership.
