But that is almost beside the point. The right to free speech, like al rights is not absolute and must be practiced with responsibility and balanced against the rights of others. It is important to note that the ACLU is not advocating for the silencing of constitutionally protected speech, they are simply reserving the right to not take certain cases that conflict with other goals and principles - as is the right of all lawyer’s, law firms and advocacy groups

In the case of the Klansman, the ACLU successfully had his conviction overturned. His words represented a thin line between inciting violence and constitutionally protected hate speech. The next time though, he might have to get Trumps Justice Department to defend him.

It's actually quite easy. Take a look at their history and who they have gone to Court for. Every two bit progressive group gets lavished with money and time.
