That's funny, Jesus says that when you die, you sleep and do not wake until judgement day..
There is nothing funny about finding yourself in hell.
It is written:
We are confident,
I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:8
The reverse is true for the wicked. To be absent from the body, is to be present in hell. The judgment is at the end. In the meanwhile that eternally alive spirit of yours has to go somewhere. Heaven or hell. Your choice. You send yourself to hell. God isn't putting any innocent people in hell. He sees everything you do, everything you say and everything you think. God knows everything.
On the matter of where someone goes - before Jesus Christ went to the cross - the wicked went to hell and God's servants, prophets went to paradise where they awaited the promise. After Jesus Christ went to the cross, went down to hell and took the keys of hell and death. He released those in paradise when heaven was opened and they received the promise they were awaiting. The story of the rich man and Lazarus is not a parable. Had it been a parable Jesus would not have used the story of Abraham and Lazarus. Abraham was (and is) a real person. Lazarus was (and is) a real person.

Notice that Jesus said this: And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Because you are not capable of understanding spiritual matters you mistake the word dead for dead as in the earthly plane when the body dies and the spirit and soul leave the body (because a spirit cannot die).
Consider the story of Saul and the Witch of Endor concerning Samuel:

9 And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die?
10 And Saul sware to her by the Lord, saying, As the Lord liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing.

Samuel comes up and speaks to Saul. Samuel tells Saul why the kingdom is being torn from him and what is going to happen the following day. Samuel is prophesying to Saul even as he did while upon the earth. Samuel appears in the form of an old man (he has not yet received his glorified body - he is awaiting the promise in Paradise as Abraham was) and
speaks to Saul and prophesies to Saul.
DEAD MEN CANNOT SPEAK NOR CAN THE PROPHECY NOR CAN THEY APPEAR IN THE FORM OF A MAN. YOU'RE CLEARLY MISTAKEN IN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE.
The moment you die, if you have not repented and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior - living a holy, obedient life unto him to your very last hour on earth, you will be in hell with that rich man Jesus Christ spoke of. Not at the end of the age. No. You'll be on your way there the minute that final breath leaves your body. REPENT.
