A Tea Party Wants Mandatory Christmas Carols In Public Schools

Christmas is not a national holiday.

Now, tell us where the courts have ever decided any cases in favor of Christianity, over other religions, on the grounds that Christmas is a national holiday (despite the fact it isn't).

its a federal and state holiday that celebrates the birth of christ...yet you don't want to allow people to sing about that....you hate free speech

Aren't you going to cite some cases to back up your claim?

that its a federal holiday? your point is a strawman...i never made that claim and its a red herring as it has nothing to do with allowing people to sing about a federal holiday

we know, you hate free speech

No, the proposition says they 'shall', meaning they must. The 'may' refers to the options they have for carrying out the MANDATE.

exactly, so you're lying by saying they must make part of the curriculum....they don't have to, they may, not must

No, idiot, the may refers to means. The end is the same. It's like you having to be in court Monday. You MAY take your car, you MAY take the bus, you MAY walk,

but you still have to get there.

no...good lord you are an idiot...it only mandates the opportunity, the schools MAY include in the curiculum etc....they are not required to

apparently i thought you were lying, but i guess you just stupid and can't read

Yurt, you are seriously retarded or just trying to dig yourself out of a hole.

NYC nailed your ass, man up.

And btw...why would a local school system force children to sing about a Federal Holiday? I see you have tossed states rights right out the freaking window.

I don't want kids telling their teachers to go fuck themselves. Free speech?

your logic is pathetic....the two aren't even related....you want to suppress singing about a federal holiday...thats a fact....you hate free speech

i knew you couldn't actually debate it ravi....

they MAY have it as part of the curiculum, they are not required to....that is a plain reading of it....but since you are incapable of actually explaining to us how they are forced to have it as part of the curiculum, when it clearly says they MAY.....we'll just have to settle for your cowardly proclamation that you're right

He does not hate free speech. However, you obviously hate states rights when it doesn't jive with your thinking. Which proves you to be a hypocrite.

You cannot read.

Merry Hyatt, a substitute teacher and member of the Redding Tea Party Patriots, is behind the push. The Record Searchlight reports:

The initiative would require schools to provide children the opportunity to listen to or perform Christmas carols, and would subject the schools to litigation if the rule isn't followed.

Schools currently are allowed to offer Christmas music as long as it is used for academic purposes rather than devotional purposes and isn't used to promote a particular religious belief, according to an analysis by the California Legislative Analyst's Office.

Now Yurt, mind reading out the definition of require and litigation.

"(a) Each public elementary and secondary school shall provide
opportunities
to its pupils for listening to or performing Christmas music at an
appropriate time ofyear. The appreciation or performance ofthe Christmas music may
be incorporated
into the subject matter of an arts or social studies class, presented for
cultural enrichment during a school assembly, or both
."

may be incorporated ravi....it is not mandetory....you seriously are stupid

Considering you spell mandatory wrong and then call her stupid, that is hilarious irony.

You missed the part where it is required or they face punishment.

You seem to be missing the point about how the Government would be involving itself. If you are a supporter of the tea party ideals, you should be against this. This is an obvious attempt to inject religion into the public schools.

You seem to miss the part where you are a complete hypocrite on this issue. Also, if you are going to call someone stupid, you probably do not want to make a typo right beforehand.

Are you denying you said this:

when those religions have a national holiday, then you have a point.

??

It's required if they face punishment if not followed.

More from Merry Susan Hyatt, the perpetrator of this initiative:

"These kids, they need it," she said. "They need to see that we believe in Jesus, and He is the Prince of Peace. That's why we are the best country on Earth."

gee, can't imagine why anyone would interpret that as trying to use the public schools to impose a particular religion on anyone...

:lol::lol:

good lord...so now typos are a sign of intelligence or lack there of....you're desperate

this isn't creating bigger government, it is creating more freedom by allowing the community/students the opportunity....it is not an attempt to inject religion, it is about giving people the opportunity to sing about a federal holiday that is celebrated nationally....

you still haven't proven how i hate states rights, thus you proved yourself a liar....further, there is nothing hypocritical about my stance....you seem only capable of false claims and not debate....

So much for that teabagger being for freedom.

Freedom means the FREEDOM to express yourself, you pea brained nitwit.

SUPPRESSION is refusing people the right to do so.

So how is it elminating freedom to allow children the opportunity to sing Christmas carols?

Didn't realize "freedom to use public money to push your beliefs on others" was protected by the Constitution.

my son is a choir director at a public high school. He puts on a Christmas concert at a local church because his school does not have a performance space. His school choir sings sacred music.... from several religious traditions... and the town loves it. If anyone complained, however, he knows that he would have to move his concert back into the cafeteria and take the religious music out of his program.
