Why should the government take only the bad loans and give corporate greed the good ones when they fucked up? So you and I and our grandkids have to pay for their mistakes? But you will call us socialists if the government keeps the good loans, so we can't win with you.

I tend to agree on this issue Robert, that Chris Dodd does not have a lot of credibility on this issue. I don't think it has much to do with his home state however.

I have come to the conclusion after much thought, on this bailout, that with the passage of this bill our country will fundamentally change from a republic to a government controlled socialist democracy. It's truly a sad day in American history for us all, from this point forward, the Govt. will be in the mortgage, banking, and insurance business. No more will responsibility be looked upon as value to be cherished, a person that pay's their bill's and works hard to buy a home, and see to it that their children have a better life than they did are made meaningless by a bill that say's it's okay not to pay your mortgage, your fellow American that pay's theirs will pay it for you. It validates the people on Wall Street that made millions at the expense of bad business decisions by throwing them a life life. It say's, don't worry if your a bad business man, the American people will pay for your mistakes. So who's to blame you ask? Well after much thought on the matter, I have come to the conclusion WE ARE!!. We are because, we voted for ALL those in congress and the White House for the last 35 years that have looked the other way, and accepted Millions from these companies, in the form of PAC donations, free rides, etc. We continued to Vote for these people who were to look after out interest. both DEMOCRAT and REPUBLICAN!! However now these same people are telling us, it's okay, because, now Mr./Ms. American we are going to take 700 Billion of your money to bail out all these people.If they really wanted to send a message, then what they should do is tell the people on Wall Street there is a thing called bankruptcy in this country, and to the mortgage holders its called the same thing.

So then what the advocacy here is jillian is, that debt is the responsibility of the taxpayer, where profits can be taken by the taxpayer as well? So in that case , do I get a share of my neighbors profits as I will be helping pay my neighbors debts? See what I mean? if one person runs up a higher debt than another, and at the same time the person with less debts makes more profits , he is paying for the higher debts of his or her neighbor. That system seems a little like the Karl Marx "Wealth Redistribution" model under another name if you ask me. If someone has a debt, then they should be responsible for for the profits that offset those debts.

certainly a big part of it. and yes, they kept re-financing til they took all their equity out of the property and then the prices dropped. no question.

but what about predatory lending practices and corporations that totally ignored their responsibility to do risk assessment... and greedy shareholders and incompetent CEO's who took golden parachutes ...

either way, as was pointed out, the banks were too big to fail. not allowing that again would probably be a good thing.

But blaming the most powerless among all of those responsible doesn't make a lot of sense.
