Rocky Horror Remake: How to Lose Fans and Alienate People

Sometimes an idea is simply, astonishingly bad. Like introducing New Coke or releasing Battlefield Earth. Perhaps history will prove us wrong, but we're comfortable stepping out on a ledge to declare that any remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show will be in that same league.

Mandate Pictures has won the auction for The Day of the Triffids. The film will be produced by Ghost House, the partnership between Mandate, Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. The deal is seven-figures and I've heard it's the most that Mandate has paid for a project package. Raimi wants to direct it; the original was one of his favorite films as a boy. Raimi and Tapert will board the producer roster, joining Michael Preger, Angry Films' Don Murphy and Susan Montford, and Mark Gordon, who previously worked with Raimi on A Simple Plan.

My husband, with his best friend, used to perform Rocky Horror on-stage in Boston on Saturday nights. He was the first to introduce me to the cult phenomenon. When VHS tapes were big, Rocky Horror Picture Show went for $100.00! I kid you not!

In my Tim Curry-loving opinion, I say LEAVE THE DAMN MOVIE ALONE!

Enough with all the freakin' remakes!

Wow! I opened both windows at once bones. Think I am having a flashback!

It might be worth it just to see the live theater groups tear it up.

I saw the original.....it could be done better. Concept sucks though. Who buys the idea of nuked-out monsters from outer space anymore?

This is the one I'd like to see re-done....

I think that in retaliation the Royal Shakespeare Company should do a classical dramatisation of Dude, Where's My Car?

Oh, Wow!

We used to go to the 8th Street theatre, in Greenwich Village, NYC, at midnight...

we brought a bag of rice, a lighter, I've forgotten what else...

Water gun?

Rice, newspaper, toast, squirt gun, lighter............

Only trouble is, I don't think that the current generation understands what audience participation means.

They've all grown up on iPhone apps and video games.

Dancing in the aisle, calling out the lines as the actor speaks them,...they don't know what they're missing.

Who the hell could belt out Sweet Transvestite better than Curry? OMG are they nuts? I don't think anyone from GLEE can cut it.

Sheesh, leave the classics alone!

:hellno:
