No, Socialism would not be a better idea. I’m in favor of an Authoritarian form of Government ruled not by the People, but by a rewritten Constitution that cannot be edited. The Government would exist SOLELY to enforce the Laws and Rules laid out in the Constitution. Beyond that they would have NO power at all. China's system allows them to choose the best and the brightest leaders, who are voted out by the communist bureau if they stop performing. This is of course in combination with allowing capitalism with limitations to ensure the people are elevated along with the more wealthy. Their system has proven to be a huge success by elevating hundreds of millions of their people up out of poverty in a very short time.
We choose democracy but unfortunately we get rewarded by very poor leadership in many cases. Hence the ugly situation that now exists in America, with stolen elections or accusations of stolen elections.
