I had a moment with a woman about my age downtown. She was complaining about Donald Trump’s suggestion that violent illegal immigrants should be housed at Guantánamo Bay. She compared it to Auschwitz which is kind of strange considering Trump has Jews in his family. Anyway, I told her I voted for Trump and the first thing out of her mouth was that Trump called American soldiers suckers and losers. In a day and age when everything uttered by any public figure is splashed all over the airwaves in videos, there in nothing like that showing Trump saying such a thing. There are only anonymous accusations that he said that, in other words, propaganda.

I told her that the same thing could happen to her. Someone could make up something and accuse her of saying it. I asked her if that is the kind of world she wants to live in, and I could almost hear the gears grinding in her head. She could not fathom the point I was making. Lucky for all of us, this woman is in the minority and Trump got elected.
