A plea to my Conservative brothers and sisters.

This is nothing that a civil union wont solve.... this as much of a non issue as it gets.

If it was soooooo important why did Obama wait till now? :eusa_hand:

I call BULLSHIT.
Then support civil unions with all the benefits of marriage. I have yet to see anyone offer that legislation. In fact, didn't NC JUST yesterday outlaw civil unions? And didn't Floriduh do the same, JUST last year?

Well lets see Obama put his money where his mouth is... where is the legislation?

I dont think this issue is important enough to put a bill forth on it right now. We have MUCH MUCH BIGGER fish to fry right now.
Just my opinion though.
Are you joking? Allowing gays to marry would seriously boost the economy.

Can we shelve the Anti-Gay Marriage debate until after the election? I don't just mean here, I mean in real life and in the media.

What we are doing is falling into a trap set by the progs. ANYTHING that can keep the discussion away from obama and on us.

Fighting over this is silly. There are way more important things to discuss than gay marriage, no matter how you feel about it, it will be a useless issue unless we can get rid of obama. Who cares if gays can or can't get married if obama is re-elected because there won't be anything left of our republic. Who wants to live in a socialistic America where Gays cannot get married?

We need to keep the focus on obama and his failed presidency, so far he's been successful in distracting everyone with one pointless issue after another.

Tell that to Ed Gillespie:

heh

Keep telling yourself that... he licked his finger and waved it in the air.

Pathetic if ya ask me.

I tend to agree with you. His move was Romney-esque in the way it looks. I do think he was there already however; getting rid of DADT and other pro-gay equality measures he has taken. You can't call it a 100% political play. It looks terrible though. This is the type of thing that will lose the election for him--not the substance but the style.

I agree, it looks pathetic.

Yep...

This is something that does not affect us in our daily lives such as gas prices, national defense, and the economy.

I know too many gays who could care less about this issue... they care that their wallets (chains and all) are emptier now...

I thnk I got the speeling right though

Fucking lies just roll off the tongues of some people. As easy as taking a breath.

Shelve it?

I'll stir the fucking pot.

ALL marriages should be called civil unions and nothing more, until & unless your particular civil union happens to be sanctioned by your own house of worship. Then, if you wish to, you and your co-religion faithful can call yourselves "married." But the state and the church/synagogue/temple/mosque ought to have no connection in this regard. So, as far as the state is concerned, it should ALL be JUST civil unions. And the only reason the state need be involved is to whatever extent it involves a contract or other legal matters that require governmental or judicial actions.

My plan is simple. If everyone (in the eyes of the state) is treated equally (i.e., all couples are involved in civil unions only), then there is no no state bigotry or inequality implicated. And if your church doesn't recognize a gay marriage, that's similarly no concern of the state. But even if you have problems with your house of worship, you still get treated under the law like the folks the church or temple labels as being "married."

Problem fixed.

Get the STATE out of "marriage."

As someone pointed out on the other thread, not allowing gays to be married is a political issue because of the inheritance, income tax, etc. ramifications.

Civil rights are one of the most important issues in our country, in good times and bad.

The economy will recover and the US will be great again....but making laws to take away rights and liberties is about as un-American as it gets.

So in reality, the Republicans need to reflect on that fact.

Let me remind you dishonest clowns that 70% of the black population in North Carolina voted Yes to Ban Same Sex Marriage.. It really has noting to do with Republicans.. so that makes you an asswipe. donut?

Won't happen.

Nope...the social conservatives have the RNC by the balls, so to speak. What Goldwater warned about has happened. *chuckle

Let me remind you dishonest clowns that 70% of the black population in North Carolina voted YES to ban same sex marriage which has absolutely nothing to do with Republicans or Mormons either..

Listen here, nutters. Barack Obama is more than happy to talk about the economy. He'll be doing that on a regular basis, in fact.

He is fond of discussing the 26 months of private sector job growth. He likes to discuss the fact that GOP policies on the state level have hindered progress by killing public sector jobs. He won't skip an opportunity to discuss the flourishing automobile industry and he'll just chuckle at your guy as he tries to take credit for it. Our President will happily engage in a discussion about how production is up, exports are up, unemployment is on a downward trend and.........he might even talk about how we are producing more oil than we used to.

You nutters make gay marriage an issue..............by insisting that it is a fucking issue..........in every fucking election. You ride it like a cheap whore in the hopes that you'll get some yahoos to put down their Bud Light and vote.

It IS the economy. And our guy is better at running it than you thought. So...........YOU don't REALLY want to discuss it. How about admitting that.

shut up whore.

If it were really about "the good of the republic", rws would fight for the civil rights guaranteed by our constitution.

You don't actually believe the economy is going to recover under Obama, do you?

Do you realize that Obama has done his share of removing civil rights?

Obamacare anyone?

Immie

I see no reason why we cant defend the institution of marriage and push forward the economy. Dont worry. We will continue to hammer Obama's record.
