This is one of those issues where both opposites resonate with me. I find the Stars & Bras offensive, and think it represents a repulsive American issue of shame that made a lie of our Founding principles. I am in favor of banning the pennant from public government and national sites. Yet I feel the need to protect the rights of preference of those Americans who fought for our nation and think this legislation is wrong. It leaves me drained, although the comparison to ISIS is a tad overdramatic.

I don't have an issue with "banning" the Confederate flag from Federal sites, why would any of them be flying one anyway? It is dumb however to remove it from monuments related to the civil war, even if they are taxpayer funded. It was a part of history.

What really disturbs me is how the left is using any display of the flag by citizens as reasoning to carry out lynch mob style attacks. They get people fired from their jobs just for having the flag. They accuse them of being racist, as if having a flag is proof of that. The left are a collection of bullies, and will use every intimidation tactic they can in order to push their Agenda.

I gotta take issue with that. Kids don't call adults by their first names on the "North" either; turn signal negligence is just as bad in the South as the North; I see no difference in doors, and calling someone Mr. or Miss (first name) just muddies the water as to what their last name is.

OK, I can kinda see how the last one would work to be both informal and respectful, but it still doesn't compute.

I suspect some of this is mistaking Southern/Northern sensibilities for Rural/Urban. 'Round here, if you drive down the road toward town and pass somebody coming in, you wave... but it was exactly the same pattern when I lived in Vermont. In both cases, a rural area. You won't find that sort of sensibility on the streets of Atlanta, or Charlotte, or Nashville.

Seriously I think the Confederate Flag and whether or not to fly it is about as complicated as the civil war itself. Some see it as a flag that promoted slavery and hate; and it is. Others see it as a Southern Pride thing and I guess it is. 150 years ago it represented both but today when many of the Southern families ancestors weren't even living in the USA ,much less participated in the Civil War, what else could it be but tradition and pride. IDK that it should be flown over a state capital because the capital has to represent all the people all the time but in places like Gettysburg PA. It's historical significance matters and should be displayed and flown. I went last year to Gettysburg and was happy to find the stars and bars being sold and flown because for me It was history and history shouldn't be sanitized. BTW I am the GG Granddaughter and Niece of Union soldiers. I don't find the flag offensive in a historical perspective but secretly wish those who drive around with it on their trucks up here in CT would take a wrong turn in New Haven and see what happens. lol
