. The forces have to be stabilized, because we can't allow something that was created out of social experimentation to weaken the forces, and especially the leadership. The fact that this has risen to the top screams about change is needed, and as bad as it has become the change needs to be dramatic... Well they would just have to hide it then, because the rules would be enforced. There wouldn't be no dam libs grandstanding in a hearing trying to suggest that the Marine corps commanders are at fault for the bullcrap that's for sure.. It is why changes need to be implemented in light of all this stuff you speak of. Maybe a restriction of such materials aboard the ship or on base just like their doing in most places with ciggerett smoking now. Could put up signs that read sex restricted area or no sex or sexual content allowed. Hmmm.'cept, of course, Playboy and like magazines aren't sold on military bases.
Even if they aren't sold in the PX, they will still get dirty pictures to look at.
Ever been to Italy or France? If you ever go, check out some of the magazines they are selling in the newstands there. Some of them make Hustler look like Hi Lites.
And then, there is the fact that there are VCRs and DVD players all over the ship, many people have their own personal one, and with that, some of them even have a porn stash. There was a dude in my squadron named Johnny who was the squadron porn king. He had a cruise box full of dirty tapes. And, for those of you who don't know how big a cruise box is, they are about 3 ft, by 2 ft, by 2 ft. He even had a copy of the chick that was a sportscaster who made a dirty movie with her boyfriend where she was fisted.
Nope, sorry, but the sex drive is too strong in young adults and they will ALWAYS find a way to get porn. I know I did when I was in my 20's.
You have obviously never been onboard a ship, nor do you know very many Sailors, or if you do, you don't talk to them very much because otherwise you wouldn't have made such a stupid suggestion.
Chapter 9 of the Naval Officer's Handbook (and yea, it was there in 1992 when I got my hands on one), it says (and I quote), "Enlisted men are sly cunning and devious and bear considerable watching." Most enlisted people I knew lived up to that charge, I know I did.
They can do inspections all they want, but there are WAY too many places to hide stuff on a ship. And then there is the fact that like minded groups will get together to share various interests.
Nope, your suggestions will never work or even could be implemented.
Good order and discipline starts at the top dude. I know I was responsible for the actions of EVERYONE in my shop when I ran the MEPS at Amarillo. If they screwed up, I also caught an ass chewing because I was the leader.
And, if they would simply do investigations when charges are brought up against someone rather than hiding them in the good old boy network, there would be a reduction in incidents. One of the reasons it is happening today is the low incidence of investigations and the people who do it know there is a very little chance of being held accountable.
You don't need to change the military, just change the attitudes of the old war horses that are still there and tell them to accept that women are serving alongside men and to get over it.
I mean.................really.....................how often do you hear of this happening in a corporation or business? Not very often, because not only is there training for sexual harassment, but businesses know they need to take those matters seriously when they happen.
The military? From all the news stories that I've seen and read on this appear to be less concerned than private businesses.
