This made me laugh at him getting arrested, when he meant it as a creative prank to make people laugh during hard times.

Amen to this. A similar situation was shown during a season six Blue Bloods episode. Having a gun out is what gets a guy stabbed to death. The guy holding the knife didn't know that it was a toy gun. The guy who was stabbed dies in the arms of Jamie's former partner.
