I think the Democrats should say absolutely nothing on this.

Then if/when the Republicans gain power again the Democrats then refuse to follow any law or edict passed by the Republicans and say 'we invoke the Republican rule'. 'Which states you can ignore Constitutional separation of powers and the will of the electorate and do whatever your political party wants to do.'
