‘A literal gut punch’: Missouri workers devastated by Republican repeal of paid sick leave

The right’s war on working Americans continues.
An argument can be made. However, progressives have no problem living off of people making their products for them overseas whose working conditions are primal compared to here. So that may mean that some of our social agenda society is built on this now.

The republican government in MO repealed a bill providing paid sick leave to workers that was approved by 58% of the voters. For lower income workers a sick day means unpaid bills or food off the table. They caved to a powerful lobbying group composed of industry groups, who of course have more available funds than struggling workers.

Another case of Republican rule, the worst government money can buy.

Benefits should be decided by businesses, not by voters and not by the government. This will help decrease prices to everyone. Why are you against lowering prices to everyone?

Right?

Next they will vote that if an employee has a spouse who is self-employed, the employer must pay them their lost profits if they get sick. unlimited of course.

Why are you anti american worker?
Businesses decide on their benefits, not workers and not the government. If job searchers don't like the benefits or the pay they can go elsewhere and, if they're already working, they are free to leave and work at better paying jobs with better benefits. And if employers don't like some of their workers they have the same right to fire employees, just as employees are free to leave their employment. That's the American way.

Let's vote that every american worker should have one paid friday off per month. Paid a time and a half in fact.

You know . . . while we're at it

seems unions are needed.

Had a brother working for ACS. He could not be on that insurance and on his wife's.

Made no sense.

It's not mistreating employees to not pay them for not working.
I work construction for a small outfit.
I get no sick time or paid vacation.

The boss has still paid me days off though on the rare occasion I actually am sick.

When I used to work at places that had sick leave, it was continuously abused by the same workers who had more of a work ethic issue or hangover than an actual illness.

I had a liberal young woman come to work at the UPS Early AM airport. The type of liberal that "corrects" people's politically incorrect words and tells stories of creepy men hitting on her even though she cut her hair short so they wouldn't talk to her.

Other than those annoying habits, she was nice enough. She was a part-time clerk, but she got paid sick leave. She took one and when she came back, she said "I've never been paid for a day off before. I'll never quit UPS. My friends think I'm a sellout."

We got sick days, health insurance, and vacation time at UPS. But we worked hard and the company was profitable and could afford it. Even the unskilled jobs were jobs not everyone could do.

If someone wants paid sick leave, they need to work for a company that provides it. Most likely, they will have to bring something to the table, though. That seems to be the sticking point for Democrats and "not Democrats."

It's not a problem at all, so long as it is voluntary.

I haven't been without employer provided sick days, since I worked for a cash business moving company in high school. I have worked some part-time gigs that did not offer sick days. I liked the extra money (in addition to my full time job). I'm sure glad that I wasn't priced out of those jobs by a mandatory sick days law.

You seem unable to answer questions about this topic you supposedly know so much about. How many sick days do you want each employer to have to provide? When does it start? I assume you mean after one day of work, any employee can take unlimited sick days?

I am very glad about that also.

It is Texas. You may want to program google maps to avoid it at all costs.

How many sick days to you want employers to be forced to provide a new employee?

Moron, you are talking about sick time based on hours worked. Who cares?
