I do not know the numerical odds of a home invasion occuring, nor do I care. It's a false parameter to the discussion to begin with. How about violent crimes committed with firearms against US citizens? THAT would be a FAR AND AWAY more appropriate statistic.

I'll give you just one factor that blows holes in your theory. Being that the more guns the greater likely hood of violence. Where I grew up in the country, knowing my neighbors and such and can tell definatively there are more guns in a square mile than there are people. Know how many murders or acts of violence involving guns there have been in the last 50 years? 0. The envirionment I grew up in is not special or unique. It's the same environment almost everybody I went to high school with grew up in. Your argument is based on the notion that there is something inherent in guns themselves that there will be violence if they are present. The fact is a gun is inanimate, it can do nothing on it's own. It doesn't matter if someone has a stack of 1000 guns in front of them or one. The determing factor as to whether there will be violence rests with the individual, not the gun.

Your applause for what you deem my acceptable use of a firearm is hollow as well. I'm sorry you just don't get it. As far as positions against firearms, yours has to be the most non-sensical there is. You made the 'need' argument, which is the dumbest argument there is. You protest that more guns means more violonce when statistics show the opposite is true. It isn't too late to do some objective reasoning about this. Guns are not violent, some people are.
