80 years ago today the skies of Los Angeles lit up with search lights and anti-aircraft fire in what is known as the Battle of Los Angeles. To this day it is unknown if enemy aircraft were present (Japanese subs did carry aircraft), but the day before a Japanese submarine had shelled a refinery in Santa Barbara.

The West Coast people probably didn't get over the "Invasion Panic" until after Midway and the Guadalcanal Campaign showed the Japanese were on the defensive.
