Some tasks are obviously best accomplished by the individual (raising a family, earning a living) others are best accomplished by a society (security, infrastructure, care of those who can't take care of themselves). The question falls in the gray areas and how much or how little government does vs the individual

The word was NEVER intended, nor used until recently, to mean a joining of two people of the same gender, so usuing it to now describe the joining of two same sex deviants living as a couple IS changing the meaning of the word.
