Since we have no industries left to give them, in the form of tariff free entry into our markets, Foreign "aid" is now all too often are nothing but a bribe given to the elite of a nation. Unless it coming as military aid, in which case its really welfare for US arms manufacutuers given by proxy.

I doubt much of it really helps the people of that nation. Proably more of it is used keeping them in line than helping them or their economy.

This is basically how we've keep control of nations filled with citizens who basically hate our guts.

We've been doing this for decades and decades.

We actually helped create Al Qaeda and the Taliban with the $Billions & $Billions we spent on kicking the Soviets out of Afghanistan. We also created their awful Civil War that was to come later. We never cut Afghanistan off either. We continued to give them $Millions in aid until Al Qaeda & the Taliban seized power. So what did all those $Billions get us in the end? What thanks did we get for helping the Afghans kick the Soviets out? We only got brutal Muslim extremists like Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Next we got 911. We would have been much better off with the Soviets staying in power there. Blow Back is a terrible thing. Haven't our politicians learned this yet?

In regards to the OP, I say cut them all off for now. That does not need to be a permanent thing, but until we get back on our feet it is time to cut off the foreign aid for a while... of course, do that which is cutting spending, and I would suspect that within two weeks Congress will find something new to spend it on.

I didn't see one Pakistani public official say thank you after snatching that $500 Million. The same can be said about Afghan public officials as well. All i ever hear is their constant complaining about U.S. interference. This can also be said of most nations we give all that cash to. They just take all our cash and then tell us to shut up and mind our own business. How's that for gratitude? What the h*ll is wrong with our politicians? When will they wake up? The first thing that we SHOULD have done after 9/11 was to invaded Pakistan. That would have been strategic thinking.

But oops, if we did that, Pakistaini intelligence would have let the world know that Cheney had given them Anthrax, which they in turn gave to Mohammud Atta, who after poisoning himself, launched the 9/11 attacks.

Now we're stuck with 'em. Keep paying off the Pakistani elite so they can fake warring against the Taliban, while at the same time having the elite give our money to support the Taliban so that we will continue to give more money to the Pakistani elite.
