Oh there's no need to worry, I am well aware of the USOC tax status. But that is the USOC. Probably more so than you...
Until 2016 (when the United States Appreciation for Olympians and Paralympians Act was passed) the athletes payed taxes on the value of their medals as well as whatever prize money they might have received. Since 2016, it's the professional athletes who compete and win in the Olympics and earn more than $1,000,000.00 that are taxed.
The Appreciation for Olympians and Paralympians Act is the only piece of legislation dealing with athletic achievements and the exclusion of income. To simplify that for you, that means that medals and prize money won at other competitions are still taxable, only Olympic winnings are exempt.
As of 2021, the USOC awarded gold medal winners $37,500, silver medal winners $22,500, and bronze medal winners $15,000. So they're not exactly robbing the country by not being taxed. Not to mention the fact that everything they earn in their regular jobs is taxed, so take comfort in the knowledge that they do indeed pay taxes. Just like the rest of us.
The USOC and the winning amateur athletes are far more worthy of tax exempt status than any religious organization, yet you complain not one iota about them... I'd say the generate more revenue annually than the USOC.

I still find it amazing, in this day and time, for someone to be against preventing unwanted pregnancies or in favor of slowing the spread of STDs.

The number is not 500,000. According to a source only slightly more reliable than the one provided in the OP, the New York Post, the number is more along the lines 230,000 dived among three types of prophylactic options:
