The states at the top of the list, with the highest levels of taxation, are mostly states that have been losing Congressional representation each Census due to population shifts and the states at the bottom of the list, with the lowest levels of taxation, are mostly states that have been gaining.

If the Democrats' tax-and-spend reconciliation bill is enacted, the average top tax rate on personal income would rise to 57.4 percent, according to the Tax Foundation.

This would give the U.S. the highest tax rate in the developed world, and stick all 50 states with a combined federal-state tax rate higher than 50 percent.

Probably a pretty good reason as to why I see so many plates from ca and ny down here. I've spoke with some and they all say the same thing, taxes, lockdowns, vaccine mandates.
