Blame the schools. My granddaughter is in 4th grade a tour public school and her class covered the 4th of July in depth. It ain't the schools, its the parents. Part of the problem is that somehow it started getting referred to as 4th of July instead of "Independence Day." We don't call Christmas the '25th of December', we call it by what it is.

When it's just reduced to a date and fireworks are the main attraction, of course the meaning is lost.

I think it's time to start calling the day what it is. Independence Day! The name explains itself. Of course, some of the dumbed-down people still won't understand what it truly means or why it's so important.
