I think everyone in my high school system had to read The Metamorphosis and other short stories which were very interesting. Same in college, we had a big text book full of excerpts and short stories.

I read Siddhartha about 30 years ago. I remember liking it but the details are fuzzy.

short stories by Kafka are often fascinating. 😊
 
There is a strong lesson to learn from Metamorphosis.
Steppenwolf by Hesse was the one I came so engrossed in I did not realize the Library was closed. The only light on was the one at my table and the front desk. The Librarian just said I didn't want to disturb you, you were so involved in it. :)
