They’re coming onto private property without warrants and doing shit like this! Breaking her car window with a LOADED ASSAULT RIFLE!!?? Wtf!!!! For “driving erratically” while an unmarked truck full of masked men were following her down multiple streets! They’ve started coming to the hospitals in the area which is SO scary because apparently they made federal law changes to allow immigration officials into healthcare facilities and there is literally nothing we can do about it! I’m so afraid and sad and angry for these innocent people they’re targeting. My patient the other day who only spoke Spanish was so afraid to tell us his name and birthday he literally gave us a fake name and wouldn’t tell us his bday and I honestly don’t even blame him one bit. They should not have to do that!!! This is seriously going to cause so many people to be deterred from receiving medical care for literal emergencies out of fear, which in turn will cause a direct violation of EMTALA (the federal law stating that anyone coming to the emergency room must be seen and treated regardless of insurance or legal status) if they’re posted up at all of our doors trying to catch people on the way in
My poor sweet manager was almost in tears yesterday talking about what we’re supposed to do if ICE shows up at our work. He is Columbian and he said he’s told his parents to make sure they have both their drivers license and passports on them at all times no matter what. That is such a terrifying way to have to live your life knowing that the alternative is potentially being detained for NO reason other than the way you look or sound.
It has to be terrifying for so many good people. They are targeting cities with democratic leaders. This needs to stop!!
