20 young girls missing in a flood from a Texas Summer camp.

Go there and see the land and you can tell they have had floods forever there. All of Texas has been under water twice. The Guadalupe Mountains on the border with New Mexico is really a ancient coral reef from one of the under water times.
no thanks

you ever been to Sumela's restaurant

Texas always floods, they write songs about it

I cant believe they dont have, MY RADAR, on their phones

Yes. You would think they would move to high ground, but herding so many kids around can make it hard to concentrate and they probably just wore out and forgot by the end of the day. It did rise pretty fast, and in the dark, though. Scouts are taught not to make camp in gullies or right beside rivers and creeks here in Texas, but there are lot s of newcomers who aren't yet tuned into the weather extremes here and how fast it changes, or just not experienced outdoors types.

Sad story, hope they're all safe.

20 years since the last flood there. I suppose people forget. I have seen 3 floods where I live. I know how high the river will get to the amount of rain I see fall.

Certain areas flood while others don't; depends on where it rains which rivers and creeks are affected. One of the lakes there is over 95% full, while the other is less than 50% full, for instance. There were flood warnings issued before it hit.

  • While the flooding was severe in the Hill Country, resources indicate Lake Austin was at 96.9% full as of July 4th, and Lake Travis was significantly below flood pool at 43.6% full. This suggests the most extreme impacts were concentrated in specific river systems rather than the major lakes.
  • Flash Flood Warnings were issued for areas closer to Austin, but the most severe and life-threatening conditions were reported along the Guadalupe River.
  • Some areas, like those near Arroyo Seco in Brentwood, had previously experienced high water in 2015. However, the July 2025 event seems to be the most recent major high water event with widespread impacts.

Texas National Guard with children thet pulled from the trees. Parents don't be afraid to let your children climb. Put watch them to make sure they are safe doing it.

Evacuating people five miles away from San Gabriel river coming into Georgetown. Multiple areas hit with hurricane equivalent water. Two dozen rescues in northwest Travis County. Of course next week forecst 101. Seriously. Texas weather sucks balls.

Its crazy. There wasn't even a tropical wave. It just started storm training. We have had the water equivalent of a major hurricane in three counties. A lot of rescues even in Travis and Williamson
Counties. A lot of missing people.

I can't help but wonder how deep the first ever flood was since it went for 40 days. Of course, we weren't there to witness Noah and his family being the only people who survived it. 26 feet deep in less than an hour is mind blowing. Is 26 feet where it finally stopped or was more added later on? If a road is washed away, can the space where the road was still be driven on? Even if the missing people didn't drown, the people may get sick should the water be cold enough. :( :( :(

God bless you always!!!

That camp had 750 girls along with staff at it. Along with just people camping on the river I would think there was 2000 people at the river when the flood happen.
Green-roofed cabins housing hundreds of campers and staff dotted the area, which is lush with cypress and live oak trees. This summer, Camp Mystic hosted 750 girls between 7 and 17 years old

People should just avoid camping in flood plains along rivers and creeks, period. There is high ground all along those watercourses that are safer places.

Goddamn, I was thinking when weather will be so erratic that you put your life at risk from flying. Turbulence that tears planes in half. These flash floods are hard to survive unless you have some luck on your side, like getting pushed into a tree and being able to ride it out.

No one even knew this flood was coming, must have been a crazy intense downpour.
They did not know it was coming because of cuts to our weather service and NOAA.
