70's popular music was a wasteland. Everyone was coming down off their 60's high, most of the music was pretty bland, and disco was creeping into everything. I mostly listened to Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and Jethro Tull, but the Allman Brothers and Skynyrd were pretty good.

Good songs

American Woman/No Sugar Tonight - The Guess Who
Mama Told Me - Three Dog Night
Shaft - Issac Hayes
Brandy - Looking Glass (anyone who says they don't sing along with this song when it comes on is a liar)
Brother Louie -
Stories
The Joker - Steve Miller Band
Laughter in the Rain - Neil Sedaka
Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
London Calling - The Clash
(Don't Fear) The Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
Oliver's Army - Elvis Costello
Sylvia's Mother - Dr Hook

Bonus:

Video Killed the Radio Star - The Buggles
Somebody to Love - Queen
Maggie May - Rod Stewart
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Don't Stop Me Now - Queen
Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers
Jolene - Dolly Parton
Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty
Mr. Blue Sky - ELO
American Girl - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis
War Pigs - Black Sabbath

Any one of the songs on the Bonus list could easily be on the first list. Twelve is too few... I could easily come up with more sets of twelve...

I wouldn't knock disco so fast. Alot of great music came out of that era.

To me, the best of the 70s came from the following singers.

Tanya Tucker
Billy Joe Royal
Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys (the lead of a three-guy act named Pyramid then)
Northern Calloway (David from the Sesame Street children's show)

God bless you and Tanya always!!!

Holly (a fan of her since 1991)

P.S. Sadly, all three gentlemen are not here anymore, and I miss them all so very much.

Strange Kind of Woman - Deep Purple
Watermelon in Easter Hay - Frank Zappa
Black Dog - Led Zeppelin
The Messiah Will Come Again — Roy Buchanan
Thelonius - Jeff Beck

1970s?

Say no more
