It was inevitable for auto manufacturing to leave America just as television production left decades earlier. It's simply not cost effective for Americans to be building our own cars.

When you take into consideration that all the parts for Ford and GM are manufactured in China or Mexico assembly for those parts is much cheaper at the source. Trump made that more expesnsive for them...
Strangely foreign auto manufacturers find it more economical to send parts to America for assembly.

Ford has moved production of their trucks to Mexico years ago.

GM has a number of plants there too.
