100,000 people in the United States have sickle cell disease, & most of them are African-Americans

There was a long spot on NPR this a.m. about that. Medical treatment for adults with sickle cell isn't very good unless they've got private insurance, which a lot of them are too sick to get, because they can't work steady.
Although cystic fibrosis effects far less people, it receives 9X the funding for research. Some say because the victims of CF are mostly white.
