The right of unrestricted free speech is more important to the overall health of our society than keeping individuals free from being offended. So, in other words, the protection of a right protected in our bill of rights (first amendment, free speech) outweighs the importance of protecting individuals from offense. You cannot have free speech and simultaneously protect people from being offended by speech.
